If the crash issue is resolved, the simplest solution is to selectively copy your important profile data to the new profile, then reinstall your added extensions and themes.

If the startup crashes persist, do a " clean reinstall" (remove the existing Firefox program folder, download the Firefox installer from with another browser, and then reinstall Firefox). Problems with Firefox program files can cause Firefox to crash at startup, even in Firefox Safe Mode.If Firefox also crashes when you attempt to restart in Firefox Safe Mode: Try restarting in Firefox Safe Mode and turn off hardware acceleration in Firefox Advanced settings ( Options -> Advanced / General (tab)").

If it still crashes after you disable all extensions and restart Firefox normally, the problem could be with the graphics content of your Firefox startup page and/or a video device or driver issue (see below) since Firefox Safe Mode disables hardware acceleration in Firefox 4 and above. If Firefox starts normally, one of your extensions was causing the crash. To see if an extension is the problem, go to the Firefox "Add-ons -> Extensions" list, disable all of your extensions and then close and restart Firefox. The crashes may be caused by Problematic extensions, which are disabled in Firefox Safe Mode.

If Firefox does not crash when you restart in Firefox Safe Mode (at the "Firefox Safe Mode" window, click "Continue in Safe Mode" or, in Firefox 15 or above, "Start in Safe Mode"): Note: If Firefox doesn't start up but you aren't sure whether it crashed or not and you didn't see the Mozilla Crash Reporter, see also Browser will not start up. Make sure you allow the Mozilla Crash Reporter to submit a crash report so that you can view it later to get any useful information about the crash, including related bug reports (see viewing crash reports). Try setting the javascript.options.*jit.* preferences to false in about:config ( see below).Ĭrashes that occur when starting Firefox are difficult to troubleshoot, especially if you also cannot start in Firefox Safe Mode.

Additionally I have to say Firefox as a Snap package have been full of glitches and small bugs, I will probably go back to ordinary Firefox install if still possible, or maybe try some other distro. There one can find 11 permission switches for various things, All OFF, so I tried and flipped the switch for “Access files in your home folder” and FINALLY I can download certain files and install extensions, geez what a F* ordeal which have terrorized me for a couple of months., arrrgh… I have another Ubuntu install with same problem, and it’s a bit different set up and managed, but yet suffering from same problem. the SW manager program, I go to the installed SW folder and look up the Firefox install, there I see a Permission button, click on it and low and behold… ALL permissions are turned OFF, WTF Ubuntu!?!?

…and apparently with all permissions turned Off, there are several very good “Ask Ubuntu” and other web pages on how to fix the permission problem, such as…īut none could help with my problem… that is until I took a look into Ubuntu “Software” ie. The F* Ubuntu team have left the ordinary Firefox version and started to push (Yes, literally removing the old Firefox without telling it in the updater, very disappointing move) the Snap packed version of Firefox I finally manage to track down this terrible problem which have terrorized me for months…
